BOXELDER BUGS

Boxelder bugs are identified by their reddish or orange markings on their back. You’ll see them in the fall where they tend to congregate on warm rocks, trees, or buildings where the sun hits. In the winter they seek shelter in homes or businesses where crevices allow them entrance. They will insulate themselves in those crevices for protection from the cold winter weather.

They are not known to bite, however, if handled they may attempt to suck on your skin which can puncture the skin and lead to an irritation similar to a mosquito bite. If crushed the boxelder bug can produce a pungent odor. It is best to remove them by extraction.
