Seattle Steps Up to Save a Life (Tukwila, WA)
Seattle, WA- At the EcoShield Seattle Branch in Seattle, Washington, what started as a normal day quickly turned into a medical emergency that required courage, quick thinking, and calm leadership. In a matter of moments, coworkers acted as first responders and stepped up without hesitation to save the life of one of their own.
This was a moment that revealed the true character of the Seattle Central team. While nobody in the building expected their morning to unfold the way it did, the actions that followed showed exactly what kind of culture exists inside of this EcoShield office.
An Ordinary Morning Turned Serious
The day had started with a morning meeting involving managers and technicians. Employees were settling into the morning, talking through plans for the day, and preparing for their daily routes when suddenly word spread like wildfire through the warehouse that a coworker had collapsed and was unresponsive.
Almost instantly, the atmosphere shifted and everyone stopped what they were doing. Employees rushed to help, unsure of exactly what was happening but understanding immediately that it was serious. One of their teammates was not breathing.
General Manager Noe Garcia remembers the urgency and uncertainty in those first few moments clearly. “You could feel the worry in the air,” he said. “Everybody knew this was real.” While many would have frozen in fear during this emergency, EcoShield team members immediately moved into action. Their quick actions saved a life.
The First to Respond
Field Managers David Padgett and Frankie Romero were among the first people on the scene. They quickly positioned themselves beside their coworker and began to help while assessing the situation. At the same time, start tech manager Austin Coulter wasted no time calling 911 and alerting General Manager Noe Garcia that emergency help was needed.
As Noe rushed into the warehouse, the situation became even more intense. Noe focused on redirecting employees away from the scene, recognizing how emotionally overwhelming the situation was becoming. “Not everybody should have to witness something like that,” he said.
Meanwhile, David and Frankie continued lifesaving efforts side by side. David’s calm structured personality helped steady the moment. Before joining EcoShield, he worked as a prison guard for several years, where he received emergency response and CPR training. Coworkers say he works well under pressure.
Frankie brings a different kind of leadership that showed in that moment. Known around the office for his humor, positivity, and ability to connect with everyone, he became a source of steadiness and continued pushing through the stress for more lifesaving measured that ended up saving their teammates’ life.
Shortly after, the situation began to improve, and first responders arrived on the scene. Police officers entered first, followed by firefighters and paramedics, who took over the scene. It was clear that without the efforts and experience of the Seattle Central EcoShield team, the outcome could have been grave.
The Emotional Aftermath
After the emergency ended, the adrenaline wore off and the emotional weight of the experience rested on the team. Employees attempted to continue the scheduled meetings that morning, but it quickly became clear that nobody could focus while processing what had just happened. “You could tell everybody was in shock,” Noe recalled.
The experience focused on a principle of leadership that Noe Garcia strongly believes in: ‘taking care of people comes first.’ Before moving into leadership roles, Noe spent three years working in an emergency room. This was value experience that helped him handle his team’s crisis effectively. That, combined with his personal connection and care for each one of his employees, made this emergency much more personal for Noe.
“At the office we are one team. We all have different responsibilities and strengths professionally and personally,” Noe said. “These are my guys.”
That mindset is something employees throughout the office say they feel every day. Through mentorship, encouragement, or team culture, the Seattle Central branch looks out for each other.
During this emergency, that mindset was proven real when nobody had to ask who’s responsibility it was but stepped in to help regardless.
More than Coworkers
Thankfully, the employee involved is now recovering and receiving the support that he needs.
For this EcoShield team, the experience left a lasting impact on everyone involved. In a moment filled with uncertainty, employees leaned on one another, stepped into action, and showed what it truly means to care for the people beside you. It was a powerful reminder that the strength of a workplace is not measured only by performance or results, but by the willingness of its people to show up for each other when it matters most.
